Catherine 'Kate' Elizabeth Niederhauser, 87, of Waterloo, died Sunday, November 13, 2022, at her home under Cedar Valley Hospice care. She was born December 7, 1934, in Marshalltown, daughter of Clarence Russell and Nellie Jean (Cavanaugh) Sorenson. She attended school in Marshalltown.

Kate married Richard "Dick" Niederhauser on June 29, 1957, at Saint Mary Catholic Church in Marshalltown. She worked as a homemaker, raising their three children. Kate was a member of Saint Edward Catholic Church. She enjoyed sewing and crochet.

Surviving Kate is her husband, Richard Niederhauser of Waterloo; her daughters: Linda (Mike) Moore of Waterloo, and Susan (Jeana) Niederhauser of Roseville, Mn; her son David (Jan) Niederhauser of Waterloo; eight grandchildren: Christopher, Matthew, Nora, Andrew, Sarah, Ryan, Sam, and Elizabeth; eight great-grandchidren: Hailie, Savannah, Devin, Eleanor, Margaret, Alice, Evelyn and Greta; her sister Ida (Glen) Phillips; two sisters-in-law: Lottie Russell, and Kay Russell; two brothers-in law: Robert Niederhauser, and Gerald Niederhauser; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Thomas (in infancy), Art, Charlie, and Lyle Russell; sister, Emma Propp; and parents-in law: Roy and Dorothy Niederhauser.

Services will be held Thursday, November 17, 2022, at 11:30 AM, at Saint Edward Catholic Church. Visitation will take place Wednesday, November 16, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, at Locke at Tower Park, as well as one hour prior to the service at the church.
