John A. Timm, 90, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Waterloo, died on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo.
He was born on August 11, 1936, in Hopkinton, the son of George and Marbeth (Bellis) Timm. He graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1954 and proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War.
John married LaVonne “Trudy” Kreassig on October 21, 1961, at Immanuel Congregational Church in Dubuque.
He worked as an electrician and supervisor at John Deere, retiring after 26 years.
John was a member of Trinity American Lutheran Church in Waterloo where he sang in the church choir.
He enjoyed woodworking, needlepoint, and singing in the Proud Image Chorus, and the Doo-Wops.
John is survived by his wife, Trudy Timm of Cedar Falls; three sons, Randy (Anita) Timm of Mundelein, IL, Terry (Maggie) Timm of Corpus Christi, TX, and Troy Timm of Waterloo; seven grandchildren, John, Jessica, Matthew, Randy (Lea), Autumn, Joseph, and Erin; six great-grandchildren, Lylah, John, Jackson, Jonah, Rory, and Owen; brothers-in-law, Dick, Melvin, and Ron (Cindy) Kreassig; a bonus grandson, Bryce Temple; and a special friend, Judy Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter-in-law, Andrea Timm.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 4, 2026, at Trinity American Lutheran Church, 605 W. 4th St., Waterloo, with inurnment at Garden of Memories Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by Waterloo American Legion Post #138 and the United States Navy Funeral Honor Guard. Memorial visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave., Waterloo. Memorials may be directed to church. We give you our condolences with a heavy heart. We are so sorry for your loss. Words cannot express the sadness we feel and we know that the world will not be the same without John in it. He was a bright light no matter where he was, with that smile and gleam in his eye. We were so happy that he sang How Great Thou Art at our wedding. His beautiful voice expressed his heartfelt love and strength for Our Lord. Our prayers and thoughts are with you all and many warm hugs to our dear friend, Trudy. My heart hurts for you. I cannot recall ever not knowing John. He & Harlan were 2 peas in a pod, a couple of jokers! His voice was such a gift to so many! Christmases without him singing “Birthday of a King”, funerals with How Great Thou Art & Amazing Grace. He has graced us more times than I can count. He was a member of the “Door County Dozen” as we called your traveling group. Proud Image…he has touched so many facets of our lives.

I’m so sorry to hear of Johnny Timm’s passing. I grew up and was confirmed and married at Trinity Lutheran Church years ago, but remember hearing Johnny Timm sing often, as he was the best ! So sorry for your loss, and for the choir’s loss.

Katelyn and I are saddened by the loss of John. I have known him my whole life and have many memories of him. His singing with the choir at Trinity was always something to look forward to. I also remember hearing him sing with the Proud image chorus, but my favorite memory of him was him singing at my mom’s funeral. May he rest in peace. Susan Jolly and Katelyn Jolly Stoner.
Trudy, I’m so sorry to hear of John’s passing. He left an imprint on many lives. I’m one of them. Music joined many of his friends together and now he’s singing with the angels!! He will be missed.
